There are things to consider when examining the running costs of a car. Depreciation is always a major consideration when deciding whether or not to buy a brand new car.
Standing Charges - In order to keep your vehicle ready for use and legally on the road you have to have paid for annual road tax and insurance.
You should always display an up-to-date tax disc in your front window, you can renew you tax yearly or six monthly, depending on how much you wish to pay out in one go. A reminder will usually be sent to you by post and you use this form to renew at the post office, over the phone or online. The registered owner of the car is the person responsible for paying the road tax. Always infrom the DVLA if you sell or scrap your car. If you do not have road tax for your car then it is illegal for it to be on any road side, you must make a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) if you plan to keep your car off the road for a period of time.
It is illegal to drive a car without any insurance cover and their are serious penalties to pay when you are caught doing so. The consequences are usually a hefty fine and points on your license.
