Car and Motor Insurance
It is illegal to drive in the UK without insurance and finding the right deal from numerous UK car insurance companies can prove to be an overwhelming challenge. Nowadays there’s no reason to labour over the search for the best quote.
What type of car insurance is right for you? There are different types of cover you can take out.
- Comprehensive Insurance
- Third Party Fire and Theft Insurance
- Third party only insurance
Comprehensive Cover
This sort of policy covers any damage to your car and any other car in an accident regardless of whose at fault. It covers your vehicle if it is stolen or if it is damaged by fire. It can very often also cover windscreens should they get damaged, personal belongings in the vehicle, car stereos etc. Should you be injured in an accident, if a claim is made against you following an accident then you are also covered by this type of policy. This type of comprehensive cover is going to be far more expensive than Third Party cover only but it can be worth that extra security. Basically no matter what you should be able to get help with Comprehensive Car Insurance.
Third-Party Insurance
Third-party insurance is the cheapest and minimum cover needed to drive legally in Britain. It covers you against claims or costs arising if you cause death or injury to someone, or damage to someone else's property. It is probably only worth having this sort of Insurance cover if your vehicle is of no great value.
The disadvantages of third party insurance are :
- If you cannot claim from any others driver’s policy if you are involved in an accident, then any damage to your car will have to be paid for by yourself.
- Some insurers will not offer this type of minimum insurance.
- Should your car be stolen or damaged by fire then you will not be able to make a claim as this sort of policy does not cover such events.
Third Party, Fire and Theft
There is another less expensive option to Comprehensive cover and that is Third Party, Fire and Theft. You will be covered for any fire damage and you are covered should your vehicle be stolen. This sort of Insurance covers you for any accident, that is should any one make a claim against you after an accident you are covered. However should your car be damaged in an accident and you are unable to claim from any other driver’s policy, then you will have to pay for the repairs out of your own pocket, as this sort of policy does not cover you for such an event.
Things to Consider when taking out car Insurance:
- Will you get a courtesy car while yours is off the road?
- What are the maximum claim limits for different types of claims?
- Are personal belongings left in the car covered by your policy?
- What exactly is the excess that you will have to pay yourself on your own type of policy?
- Should you choose to travel abroad will you car be covered?
- Do you get a no claims discount after a year?
- Do you wish to include breakdown cover in your policy?
- Will your insurance cover other people to drive your car?
