Insurance claims that have resulted from recent riotous behaviour could be invalidated due to time scale.
Claim firms have said that local police authorities have
a legal responsibility to reimburse those who's properties are damage as a result of riots (the riot damage act 1886). People wishing to claim need to act quickly as claims under this Act mean that they have to be made in writing and received by the local police authority within 14 days of the alleged damage taking place.
Insurers have included notification clauses within their policies that state that they have to be notified with a full supporting documentation report within 7 days of the incident.
The Act excludes liability for
damage to cars left on public highways, goods left in shops for repair and/or consequential losses.
