Private medical insurance will cover you for unexpected and curable health problems. Many people are finding that they are not prepared to wait for the NHS to treat them, and so they are taking out Private Medical Insurance policies to ensure that should they require treatment, they get it quicker than they would on the NHS. With private medical insurance you usually find that you get better facilities in hospital such as a private room, you may be able to choose where and when you are treated.
Private Medical Insurance can be expensive and obviously the more complicated your treatment the more expensive it will be. As there are limits as to what it will cover you could find that even though you have the insurance you may still have some costs to find
Considerations When Taking out Private Medical Insurance:
- Which hospitals can you be treated in. Are there any extra costs for a particular hospital.
- What's the excess for different types of claims.
- Is there a maximum number of times you can claim for the same treatment.
- Who is covered in the policy, are all family members covered.
- Are you covered for out patient treatment or not.
- How long do you need to have the policy before you can make a claim.
- What sort of treatment can you have. Does the policy cover alternative or complimentary medicines.
- What does your policy not cover. Most policies don't include: Tests done as an outpatient, dental or optical cover and you usually find medical problems that existed previous to the policy being taken out will not be covered.
